Indoor team activities in London for rainy days
IDEAS · 9 MIN

London weather decides more team days than any budget does. The useful version of an indoor plan is not a list of rooms. It is a booking that can survive a change of date, a group that can reach the venue without a long walk in the rain, and a cancellation window you have actually read.
Prices below were published by London venues in 2026. Where a venue does not state its VAT basis, this piece says so instead of assuming either way.
The indoor formats that hold a group
- Escape rooms. clueQuest’s corporate packages run from £31.99 per person for a game, £46.99 with drinks and an hour of space, and £76.99 with catering and up to three hours of space, all including VAT. Rooms take 2 to 7 players, or 4 to 8 in IAMAI.
- Pottery and crafts. Social Pottery’s Balham hand-build and decorate session is £45 per person for two hours, and its corporate pottery-painting package starts at £30 per person for 10 or more guests. Art Play prices hand-building at £32 per person and a wheel throwing taster at £55, with the VAT basis not stated on all of them.
- Cooking. London Cookery School private dim sum starts at £300 covering the first one to four people plus £65 per extra person, and the advanced class is £350 plus £75 per extra person. VAT basis not stated.
- Darts and games bars. Flight Club Social Darts is from £9 per person for 60 minutes on its groups page, with the Shoreditch location page quoting from £10 per person, and it sells to groups of 2 to 36. Its Rookie food and drink package is £40 per person for 10 or more. VAT basis not stated.
- Sip and paint. Art Play’s public Sip and Paint class is £38 per person, and private workshops start from £36 per person. Pottery painting carries a £5 per person studio fee plus the cost of the piece you paint. VAT basis not stated.
Everything on that list is indoors and every one of those venues can host a group on a wet Tuesday. The differences that matter are capacity, the minimum spend and how late you can change your mind.
Capacity rules options out fastest. A room that holds six decides the size of each escape-room team, and a cooking class is limited by the number of stations rather than the size of the room. Ask for the maximum at your chosen format before you compare prices, because the price per head changes the moment the group has to split.
Moving a booking indoors at short notice
Most venues cannot absorb a last-minute change, and their terms say so. Social Pottery’s Balham public session allows a reschedule up to 48 hours ahead, but its corporate bookings ask for seven days’ notice to reschedule and charge a non-refundable 50% booking fee 15 days before the event. clueQuest removes unsold games from public sale two hours in advance and offers a same-day hotline, but a change inside 14 days produces a voucher rather than a refund. Flight Club requires the gaming fee, the minimum spend and pre-ordered items to be paid in advance, and will not take a deposit with the balance settled on the night.
The practical rule is to move the date rather than the venue. A venue you have already booked will usually reschedule more cheaply than a new venue will take you at short notice, and a voucher keeps the money with the team instead of writing it off.
One number is usually missing from every page you read. No venue in this research published a minimum spend. Flight Club is the clearest illustration of why that matters: it confirms that a minimum spend exists and must be paid in advance, and publishes no value at all. Budget for a figure you cannot see, and ask for it in writing before you book a room with a bar.
What cancelling actually costs
The cancellation terms on Cultura Club are worth reading before you commit. Seven or more days before the event you get a full refund of the venue’s share. From three to seven days before, you get 50%. Inside three days, or for a no-show, there is no refund. Cultura Club’s 10% platform fee is not refundable once a venue has accepted, unless the venue or Cultura Club cancels, in which case you are refunded in full.
A venue’s own terms can be stricter than that, and where they differ the venue’s terms are the ones that apply. The date to diarise is the last day you can cancel for a full refund, because that single date decides whether a wet-weather plan is cheap or expensive.
Getting a wet group across London
Rain changes the journey, not only the activity. Around a third of Tube stations have step-free access, as do about half of Overground stations, and all DLR stations do. All 41 Elizabeth line stations are step-free from street to platform, with Paddington to Woolwich and Heathrow step-free from street to train. The TfL distinction matters in the rain: street to platform can still mean a ramp and a wait, while street to train does not.
The Night Tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights only, on the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and Windrush lines, and TfL says it cuts night-time journeys by an average of 20 minutes. Night Tube fares are off-peak, and a Day Travelcard is valid on the day of issue and for journeys starting before 04:30 the following day. If a lift is out of service, TfL staff will help plan an alternative step-free journey and, where there is no reasonable alternative, book an accessible taxi at TfL’s cost.
Three things this research could not verify are worth knowing so that you do not rely on them. There is no authoritative journey-time table for the main hubs, so use the TfL Journey Planner with real postcodes rather than an article’s estimate. There are no fixed last-train clock times, only per-line working timetables, so check the line PDF or TfL Go on the day. Per-station step-free status for Liverpool Street, King’s Cross, London Bridge, Shoreditch and Hackney is not verified here, so check the Step-free Tube guide for the station you pick.
Building the plan B before you need it
- Pick an indoor venue with a published cancellation window, and note the last date you can cancel for free.
- Book the room for longer than the activity. An hour of space turns a wet arrival into part of the plan rather than a crush at the door.
- Choose a venue within a short walk of a station, and check that station’s step-free status in the guide rather than trusting the line’s reputation.
- Ask for the group to be briefed in one room even when the activity splits into two. It keeps a wet, late group together.
- Send the route and the finish time with the invitation, and name one person who will wait at the door.
- Keep one indoor option unbooked as a fallback, and check its minimum group size before you need it.
A wet-weather plan is mostly a correspondence exercise. The venues that handle rain well are the ones that answer the phone before the event rather than after it.

Where to start when the forecast turns
Browse team building activities when the activity is the point, or team days in London when you are planning a whole day that has to work whatever the sky does. The category hubs are the fastest way in: games, creative workshops and food and drink each carry their own indoor stock, and every listing shows the area and group size before you send anything.
Two earlier pieces fill in the rest. The team day planning checklist covers invitations and the run sheet, and last-minute team days is for the week you have left. Then send a request with your date and headcount and let the venue confirm.
